MILWAUKEE -- (March 13, 2008) Harley-Davidson's fundraising efforts for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) raised a record $200,000 during the 67th Annual Bike Week at Daytona Beach, Fla. Harley-Davidson dealers, riders and employees joined MDA organizers and volunteers in various company sponsored activities to raise dollars during the event March 2-8.
Record fundraising totals this year were led by the Harley-Davidson’s Women’s Day Ride. Karen Davidson, the great-granddaughter of one of the Motor Company’s founders, and "American Idol" star Kimberley Locke led hundreds of women riders on the first time event which raised $67,000 for MDA.
Chief Executive Officer Jim Ziemer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Tom Bergmann, Vice President and Controller John Olin and Vice President and Treasurer Perry Glassgow, hosted the annual "Bankers Auction" which raised an event record $56,000.
Other events and activities included the Daytona MDA live auction held as part of Official Harley-Davidson activities at the Ocean Center Arena and a raffle to win a 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Train® Motorcycle customized by Willie G. Davidson with special Daytona graphics. The motorcycle was also fully accessorized with Genuine Motor Accessories installed by Harley-Davidson technicians on the Daytona show floor. Jim McCoy of Yardley, Pennsylvania won this one of a kind motorcycle.
Since 1980 Harley-Davidson has been a national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Harley-Davidson family of dealers, riders, suppliers and employees has raised more than $65 million for MDA. The funds support life-saving research, comprehensive medical care for children and adults with neuromuscular disease, and the MDA summer camps. |
