TUCSON, Ariz., June 9, 2008 — Harley-Davidson will celebrate its 105th Anniversary this summer, and among rides, concerts and parities nationwide will be several events that are fundraisers for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Activities for Harley-Davidson’s 105th that will fight muscular dystrophy include pin sales, live and online auctions, motorcycle raffles, and the historic Ride Home: riders going to Milwaukee for 105th festivities can make their trek make a difference by collecting donations and pledges for MDA.
MDA has created a special Web site where Ride Home participants can manage their fundraising online. Details about it, and a complete listing of Harley-Davidson events nationwide and all of the 105th events that benefit MDA are at www.mdarides.org.
Harley-Davidson and MDA officially launched their 105th Anniversary fundraising program on June 7 at the Las Vegas Ride For Dreams, a ride hosted by the Southern Nevada Harley-Davidson Dealers Association.
Harley-Davidson MDA Goodwill Ambassador Luke Christie joined MDA and Harley-Davidson representatives at the event to announce the program. Luke, a 14-year old from Due West, S.C., is serving this special role for the 105th following a two-year stint as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador.
“On behalf of all of the families served by MDA, I’m grateful to Harley-Davidson for helping MDA through their anniversary celebration,” Luke said. “The 105th Anniversary is going to be a celebration like no other and I can’t wait to be in the middle of all the fun.”
The 105th fun will culminate in Milwaukee Aug. 27-31 with four-days of non-stop activities throughout the city.
Top MDA fundraisers will take the spotlight there on Saturday, Aug. 30 in the Parade of MDA Heroes, and will also be eligible for other prizes. Riders can qualify for the parade by raising money for MDA at any Harley-Davidson event this summer including the Ride Home. Ride Home participants will ride to Milwaukee from 105 starting points on 25 routes across the country.
Milwaukee events will be centered around the lakefront area and include music, food and entertainment at the Summerfest Grounds, the new Harley-Davidson Museum, and a special exhibit at Discovery World. Most events will be available to ticket holders only, but the outdoor festival at Main Street Exposition at Veterans Park will be open to everyone.
The Harley Owners Group (H.O.G) – clubs whose members often take part in events that help MDA and volunteer for MDA summer camp - will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an event at Miller Park.
Since 1980, Harley-Davidson has been a national sponsor of MDA, and its family of dealers, riders, suppliers and employees has raised more than $65 million. The money raised pays for MDA programs and services such as ground-breaking research, comprehensive medical care at MDA clinics and a weeklong summer camp for children.
MDA (www.mda.org) is a voluntary health agency working to defeat muscular dystrophy and related diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education.
